Future Hendrix and the self-proclaimed coolest on the planet DJ Esco are back again for the follow-up mixtape to the colossal 56 Nights.
Fitting the title this mixtape really does have a spacey/Sci-Fi feel notably in the production with tracks like 100it Racks (FYI, 2 Chainz smashed this one). On the other side of the fence, Zaytoven brings us back to Church with the Trap Gospel production on Too Much Sauce.
Long gone are the days where Future is overshadowed by other artists after delivering the chorus. He’s really stepped his bar game something which has become more prominent since the fire trio (Monster, Beast Mode and 56 Nights). An example of this is in the track Married To The Game where Future jumps into his storytelling flow which was a welcome change to the flow of the mixtape at that point.
The features of this project really did catch me off guard, especially Young Thug and Rich Homie Quan both accused of being clones of Future in the past. Although, I feel they really have paved their own lanes and styles. I think Future knows he is seen by many as the leader for all these new sounds so coming together on the project like this really is a power move and they blend together well.
This mixtape is really what I expected the EVOL album to be but with the exception of a few tracks (Low Life and Photo Copied), I don’t feel it was even on par to Purple Reign which has the real standout hit Wicked.
In summary, Project ET is good but doesn’t really deliver anything ground-breaking which we haven’t heard from Future since his winning streak started. There is no debating that Future is up there with the top artists in rap in terms of popularity, it would be good to see him test out the R&B pocket exemplified in Honest on his next.
