Another year another wrap-up. In 2019 you got the introduction of mixes and in 2020 you also got Youtube Videos and we will continue that in 2023 (see 2021 , 2022 and 2023)! This continues the legacy dating back to 2016 where there was a US and UK music split (2018 in 2017(US, and UK) 2016 (UK and US).
Ok, cool story bro but I’m new here, what’s this even about?Throughout the year I listen to a stupid amount of music which leads to me shaping the overall views of artists and projects they deliver. In some instances, I share these views with you through my reviews/ Instagram posts. At the point of these end of year posts, I challenge myself to sum up my top artists in under 100 words each and curate a playlist and as a mix (at the bottom of the post or directly below this)
UK Music
1. Ghetts
Ghetts the season pro he is delivered one of the best bodies of work he’s ever done in 2024! it showed real maturity and confidence across many sounds. I’m waiting for the Rude Kid Ghetts tape to hit streaming platforms!
2. Bashy
Bashy returned in 2024 with his album Being Poor Is Expensive, a deeply personal exploration of his struggles and triumphs. The project shines with raw honesty, blending vivid storytelling with his sharp lyricism, proving Bashy’s ability to resonate with listeners.
3. Potter Payper
Potter Payper’s in 2024 run was crazy with multiple drops where he could be celebrated for its unfiltered narratives and introspection.
4. Bugzy Malone
Bugzy Malone’s The Great British Dream showcased his aggressive delivery and poignant commentary on life’s trials.
5. Nines
Nines delivered once again with his final album, a continuation of his celebrated storytelling style. The album offered a mix of introspective tracks and undeniable bangers, further proving his consistency in the UK rap landscape.
Overseas Music
1. Kendrick Lamar
Kendrick Lamar’s surprise album GNX demonstrated his versatility with a more accessible, polished sound. Though simpler in structure than his previous work, it retained Kendrick’s signature depth, tackling social issues with an effortless flow that only he can deliver.
2. Gunna
Gunna’s fifth studio album, One of Wun, arrived on May 10, 2024, debuting at number two on the Billboard 200. Featuring the hit track “One of Wun,” which climbed to number 26 on the Hot 100, the album highlighted Gunna’s knack for creating catchy, melodic rap. It solidified his place as a leading figure in trap music.
3. 21 Savage
American Dream, 21 Savage’s 2024 release, showcased his evolution as an artist. Packed with introspective themes and standout production, it demonstrated his ability to balance mainstream appeal with raw authenticity.
4. Future
In 2024, Future and Metro Boomin joined forces to release two powerhouse albums: We Don’t Trust You on March 22 and its sequel, We Still Don’t Trust You, on April 12. Both projects showcased Metro’s unparalleled production and Future’s dynamic artistry, featuring guest appearances from The Weeknd, Travis Scott, Kendrick Lamar, and J. Cole. Both albums debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, cementing their cultural impact
5. Shenseea
Shenseea dropped her second album, Never Gets Late Here, on May 24, 2024. With standout tracks like “Face Lift (Intro),” “Hit & Run” featuring Masicka & Di Genius, and “Die For You,” the project showcased her ability to merge dancehall vibes with contemporary global sounds. It earned her the highest debut on the Billboard Reggae Albums Chart for the year, a testament to her growing influence and artistry.
