Secure The Bag You Want In Life!

Towards the end of each year / start of January, everybody and their dog is posting motivational quotes and statements. As with all of these type of posts it’s all about being crystal clear on what you will do and will look to cut out in the new year. Personally, I’ve got no problems with these posts whatsoever as I do it too and I’m all for a progressive mindset in the midst of noise.

A term I’ve seen a few people use in their posts, images etc. is Secure The Bag. A platform which caught my attention on Instagram in December was BauceMag; A lifestyle site for the #selfmade woman.This sparked something in my head to share; my view of where the phrase comes from and how I think you can secure the bag you want.

1. What does this phrase mean?

As with most modern millennial catchy phrases the origin can be traced back to US Hip-Hop. For me this all started with Future and Jay-Z’s Khaled anthem I Got The Keys. This is one of a few Khaled “songs” where his randomly timed narrating added to the impact. More recent examples of this bag phrase being used is with Gucci Mane’s I Get Bag ft Migos.

The literal visualisation this phrase gives off is what is intriguing to me. It’s so simple, securing the bag = getting more money a bag full of cash from your grind. The thing is, that bag can really be anything why not define what’s in your bag?

2. Steps to securing the bag

Now you know what securing the bag means, let me share a few steps which I think you can try to secure the bag you want:

Define what it is inside the bag
- Get very specific with what this is and write it down.
Reverse engineer someone
- Study a person who has achieved what you want to achieve(an item in the bag).
Reach out
- Gary Vee has been preaching for a while it goes down in the DM – I’ve personally got a few blogging opportunities / guest posts just from messaging people on Instagram / Twitter.
