J Hus ‘Big Conspiracy’ – Track By Track Album Review

J Hus ‘Big Conspiracy’ – Track By Track Album Review

J Hus the ugliest Militérian returns a few months short of 3 years with his second studio album the 13 tracked release “Big Conspiracy”. Despite his, 8 month jail time and the sad passing of his dad J Hus was on everyone’s projects in 2019 and he mashed up every single one of these features; Ed Sheeran – Feels ft Young Thug and J Hus (No.6 Collaborations review), Skepta –  What Do You Mean? ft J Hus (Ignorance is Bliss review),  Mostack – Stinking Rich ft Dave and J Hus (Stacko review) and Dave – Disaster ft J Hus (Psychodrama review).

Coming back to Big Conspiracy, this album comes fresh off the back of two singles (“No Denying” and “Must Be”) and a flood tweets like this which show me that Hus has a heightened state of consciousness coming into this body of work.  His last album(Common Sense) I flagged immediately as an album of the year in 2017 and it then went on to win an NME award and was nominated for both BRIT and Mercury awards.  In this album, I expect there to be much more of a lyrical Hus on display.

1. Big Conspiracy (ft icee tgm)

I was heavily critical of his last album intro, “Common Sence” which to this day I still don’t like very much. In this intro, Juju J is so much smoother and the vocals of icee give it that Jazz R&B serenade vibe. I’m really liking the way he delivers nowadays those so much clarity.

2. Helicopter (ft icee tgm)*

This is absolutely ridiculous, how does this guy find these pockets? Aye TobiShyBoy will probably never see this but bro this is production has some fire secret agent creep to it. No overlooking icee again shes come in matching Hus with Eto quotes and all sorts.

No man can ever put my life on pause –  J Hus

3. Fight for Your Right *

Oi Hus is hitting some real powerful militant vibes on this one this, I don’t want anyone to call him an Afroswing artist again like them clones this guy is a rapper!

I was a real n*gga till I fucked my n*gga’s girl
The only way to repay him is to give him the world
And when I get my own wife, he can fuck her as well

4. Triumph

The way Hus bends his vocals on really is so unconventional I can only really compare him to Thug in that sense. This is not my favorite song so far but the production has also been so cohesive complimenting this delivery perfectly I can’t complain at all.

5. Play Play (ft Burna Boy)

This really has that summer smash feel to it, Burna might just have set off another Location with this one you know. Hus rides the tropical production effortlessly with references of women and metaphorically using some heavy artillery on them.

 6. Cucumber

Jeezzzzzous Juju J is a rude dude haha “met that gyal back in October
Then I gave her the cucumber”. The calming Steel Bangelz esque melodic vocals and swing makes it a calming listen.

7. Repeat ft Koffee

I expect most people will love this tune and some won’t. I can tell you the first few seconds or so I really wasn’t feeling it but it grows on you trust me.  This and Play Play will buss up some summer dances for sure.

8. Fortune Teller

This guy really is setting up a new blueprint for rappers to attempt to copy, this is so unlike anything I’ve heard in ages. On the downside, there is a bit too much going on with the instruments for me to pay attention to what he’s saying.

9. Reckless*

This is the raw Hus I needed to hear there is absolutely no holding back on any of the content in this song he’s going in aggressive. This is the type of song that just makes you screwface and bop through any challenges with your headphones on.

10. No Denying

This will forever be one of my number one J Hus songs other for reasons which sit outside of the music review. The pure resilience and sheer determination he demonstrates on this drill beat are incomparable to anyone. This one tune just sits him above all Drill rappers even though that isnt even his genre.

Everyday, different challenges
Never had worthy challengers
Me and you are different calibers
Every day, wake up, manifest

11. Must Be

Another masterstroke single which really set the tempo for this album with the Jazz influences. This a perfect example of the balance between street lyrics and a flawless hook.

Black boys never have no organisation
You don’t know yourself so you look for validation

12. Love, Peace, and Prosperity

Jae 5 back at last! this another switch up to anything that has been on the project so far. A strong message and a vibrant to complement the positivity that Hus is pushing out to wrap up the project.

 13. Deeper Than Rap

I looked down the barrel of the gun and saw paradise, need I say more Hus is a different breed to anyone else in the UK. He touches on black beauty, war, self-love and more what a closer.

Hus delivered on this project without a question and the growth from Common Sence showed me some immense growth in the lyrical storytelling front. This project solidified in my mind he is my faviourate UK artist without a single doubt, there is nobody who can do what he does. Hus chops and changes between gritty road chat “No Denying” to and happy playful fashion “Play Play” he even merges both in Must Be” who else can do this?

The Jazzy undertone and made smoother with icee tgm make this a very distinctive sound and I’m sure this will have more award nominations at the end of the year, sits right alongside Psychodrama.

Top 3 tracks: Helicopter, Fight for Your Right and Reckless
9/10
